Seymour Mayne will be launching a new book of his famed word sonnets that is being published this Fall to highlight fifty years since the poet’s first collection was published in Montreal. While short forms like the haiku inform Seymour Mayne’s style, there is also an older influence that plays onto his practice: Pirkei Avot or Sayings of the Sages, the Talmudic tractate of maxims, proverbs and resonant images.
