with Harvey Goldberg

This session is an illustrated lecture on the little known, fascinating story of a small group of Palestinian Jews, members of the IRGUN, who arrived in New York in 1940 as emissaries of Zeev Jabotinsky, the leader of the Zionist Revisionist movement. Their leader was Hillel Kook who used the name Peter Bergson during his time in America. Throughout the War, the group campaigned first for the creation of a Jewish Army to fight with the Allies, then to save the Jews of Europe, and finally to create a Jewish State.

Goldberg is a retired public servant and human rights expert with an interest in some of the lesser known episodes in Jewish History. This year Harvey holds the

distinguished position as Limmud Ottawa’s official time keeper by blowing the ‘Shofar’ keeping Limmudnicks in step by heralding the beginning and the end of sessions.
