Montreal Storyteller, Selina Eisenberg is a Graduate of Concordia University with a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. Her flair for telling Eastern European stories flourished during the ten years that she taught Pre-Kindergarten at Akiva School. For the past 15 years she has lead interactive story programs for the youngest members of the Jewish Public Library; with visits to local schools as the JPL’s resident storyteller exposing young minds to stories written by Jewish Authors. Her narratives come to life whether they are accompanied by her felt creations, a prop, or simply by voice alone. These same tales and others from around the world have captivated and entertained adults of all ages at local swaps, World Storytelling Day events, Canadian Storytelling Night; for physically challenged listeners; and at anniversary celebrations in Montreal and Florida. In 2011, she was commissioned by the Quebec Librarians Association to create a workshop using classic Sendak stories to compliment the international travelling exhibition “In A Nutshell: The Worlds of Maurice Sendak”. May 2013, she had the honour of travelling to Alberta on the TD Canada Children’s Book Tour. Last summer in Summerside, PEI; Selina was one of 6 tellers at a Public Storytelling Performance where she told a ”Roots Tale” that she wrote about her Zaidie Sam. This Fall she will be telling the story at the Quebec Intercultural Festival in October and in November at the Tea Party in the Byward Market. The Bronfman Jewish Education Centre has invited her twice to lead a series of workshops for Jewish Day School and High School Educators. She is President of Storytellers of Canada – Conteur du Quebec and a native of Ottawa. Selina lives with her husband Steven Smith and their grown children; Ryan, Chelsea & Lindsey.
