Zarecki has a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Social Work from McGill University. He has worked for Bnai Brith Hillel Foundation in Montreal, where he established the Task Force for Ethiopian Jewry. He was a member of the Jewish Defense League and was arrested for the demonstrations for Soviet Jewry. He is the Executive Director of Jewish Family Services in Ottawa today. For his work he received the Queen’s Jubilee medal and Canadian Race Relations Foundation Award for Excellence for the work JFS had accomplished with the Somali Community.
Abdi Karod, born in Mogadishu, came to Canada in 1992 and is Executive Director of the Somali Centre For Family Services. Karod serves the Somali community in the Ottawa area by assisting refugees and immigrants in need of settlement support and integration services.
