Join Rabbi Levy Teitlebaum and Adam Peters discuss wine history, wine perspectives and what it takes to make wine kosher. It is also an opportunity to hear the story behind the production of the first Kosher Ontario wine by Huff Estates. If time permits expect a wine making demonstration. Be warned: Grapes will be crushed and wine tasting may occur all in the name of higher education. Only those over the age of 19 may participate. L’chayim!
Rabbi Teitlebaum received his Simcha Rabbinate Ordination in 1993 while attending Kollel in Crown Heights, New York. A previous volunteer at the Chabad Central Organization, he became involved in Koshering people’s homes and assisting them in ‘going kosher’. Soon after he set out with his wife Dina to Vancouver BC where he became administrator, then director of the local kosher agency. In 2005 the Teitlebaums, now with their 7 children, moved to Ottawa ON to become director of The Ottawa Vaad HaKashrut, where he currently works. Teitlebaum is also the Rabbi at the Hillel Lodge. During this time, he has certified hundreds of companies vying for kosher certification including local eateries, caterers, homes for the aged, and Synagogues. Some of the wineries he has worked with to produce wine and other grape products, are located in British Columbia, Washington USA, Mendoza Chile, and most recently Prince Edward County, Ontario.
